Brandenburg Museum of Textile

Once they called the city Forst “Manchester of Germany”. The privileged handcraft of clothier has a long and successful tradition and history in Forst. About 1700 the town had fifty clothiers. In 1840 with introduction of the steam engine and fabrication of the heavy but cheap fabric “Buckskin” Forst became very important for textile industry .

See the traditional and industrial fabrication of fabric in the old textile mill from 1897 by historical but fully functional engines.

The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Textile tells the history of the clothier handcraft and the local history of Forst.
