Civic Museum
Near the historic city center of Wittenberge, you can find the towns oldest mansion. It was built as “White Palace” of lord Gans to Putlitz in 1669. Today the mansion is the home of the Civic Museum and called “Old Castle”. The museum presents the rapid development from a manor and small town near the river Elbe to an important location for trade and industry. The permanent exhibition and movie screenings show Wittenberge and its change over the years. The oldest building of Wittenberge, the Stone Gate, is about 700 years old and contains an exhibition of its own history. Also see about 150 different types of sewing machines mainly produced in the Wittenberge Singer sewing machine factory. The Civic Museum offers guided tours to explore the closed factory with its clock tower.
