Museum Park
Since 750 years limestone is extracted in Rüdersdorf. In the Middle Age the monks of Zinna Abbey built with limestone from Rüdersdorf as well as at a later date the Prussian Kings, which needed limestone for their magnificent buildings. In the Museum Park Rüdersdorf you can have a look at the giant open-pit mine. Explore the environment of the limestone quarry in historical and geological guided tours and maybe find some fossils. The permanent exhibition in the “House of Stones” shows the geology of the quarry and offers a look at the “Picture Book of the History of Earth”. See a Germanic lime kiln and its ultramodern brother, a cement kiln. Take a look at Rumford fireplaces, a shaft furnace plant, a chamber kiln and the cement plant as examples of important technical monuments of the historical limestone quarry.
