Civic Museum of Industry

In Ludwigsfelde the big business started in the 20th century. In 1936 Daimler Benz founded a factory to build aircraft engines. The factory was the biggest one in Europe and top secret. Daimler Benz built a settlement for their employees as well. The high productive capacity could only be achieved because of forced laborer, prisoners of the concentration camp Ravensbrück. After World War II the VEB (Nationally Owned Enterprise) mainly produced scooters and trucks in Ludwigsfelde. The Civic Museum of Industry shows the evidences of those times. See an entire aircraft engine, aerial photographies made by the Allied, a model of the secret Daimler Benz factory, paintings by Edith Kiss which show the workaday life of Ravensbrück, a “Pitty”, “Wiesel” and “Troll” scooter and legendary types of GDR trucks. The museum also shows the local history of the region Ludwigsfelde.
